BEST OF BRITISH ALBUM TAKES ON A FESTIVAL GREEN THEME

from 15sec FAME blog : TheRFW.com/Blog/15secFAME

A new double CD featuring some of the best of British new talent is being released by campaign and advice group A Greener Festival with bands tipped from bookers at six of Britain’s best loved festivals including the City Showcase, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, T-in-the-Park, Kendal Calling and Solfest. FESTIVAL HARVEST will be released as a limited edition double CD and will carry the IG (Industry Green) mark, the award from cross music industry climate change initiative Julies Bicycle which identifies a product as committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The album, manufactured by Disc Manufacturing Services, will dispense with the plastic jewel case and will be sold only in 100% card sleeves. The album will also be available to download.

Featured bands include the recently crowned Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent Competition winners Ellen & The Escapades, UK Festival Awards critic nominees Yearner Babies, The Orkid, the outstanding four piece girl band from Plymouth, Lykez, the brilliant and innovative urban act from London, Doncaster’s hot new talent The Beaus along with outstanding contributions from Fangs and A Band Called Quinn, both from Scotland

A Greener Festival co-founder Ben Challis who compiled the album said “Working with six of the top music festivals and two regional music initiatives really unearthed some magical talent. Its an added bonus for us that they all have agreed to support green festivals and the fight against climate change.”

Asked about the bands on the album, producer Luke Westbury said “We asked everyone to put forward their top tips – in any genre – and it was interesting to see that some of the acts like Lincoln’s Changing Horses, Kent’s Tom Williams & The Boat and Leeds based Tiger Shadow were tipped by two or more different festivals. Regional music groups Music South West and Doncaster Music Week both put forward some fantastic choices and the festivals’ choices, including Glastonbury, T-in-the-Park and City Showcase, really helped us to cover the length and breadth of Britain in our search for the best new talent. Many of the acts will be playing live at Festivals across the Britain this year. The double album features 28 acts – representing the 28 week UK festival season that runs from the 5th March (Cwlym Celtaidd, Porthcawl) to the 19th September (Alchemy Festival, Lincolnshire) according to the leading festival website, www.virtualfestivals.com .

Festival Harvest will be officially launched at the Great Escape festival and music convention in Brighton on the 14th May. Release Date June 1st as a download and double CD.

This album has been produced to support the work of A Greener Festival, the campaign and advice group that aims to reduce the environmental impact of music festivals around the world in the fight against climate change and pollution. You can find out more at www.agreenerfestival.com .

This Album has been packaged in recyclable card to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and has been certified for the IG mark (Industry Green, see www.juliesbicycle.com).

Acts featured on FESTIVAL HARVEST include:

Ellen And The Escapades

www.ellenandtheescapades.com

Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition winners, Leeds based Ellen & The Escapades are “dragging the folk rock and psychedelic pop of the late ’60s into the present” and sound “like a youthful Kirsty McColl, with clever, catchy pop songs and some reeling melodies, not to mention the occasional harmonica”.

My Luminaries

www.myspace.com/myluminaries

Hailing from East London, with a penchant for melodramatic keyboards, and chunky guitars, My Luminaries already won a slot at Glastonbury 2010 with their melodic guitar-laced anthems.

Scott Raba and the Ace www.myspace.com/scottraba

Scott’s influences range from Bob Dylan to artists like the Manic Street Preachers which have helped him to develop a strong sense of melody set off by strong vocals and great story-telling. Every song boasts warm melodies and passionate lyrics!

Lykez

www.myspace.com/lykezmusic

“Set to follow Dizzee Rascal and Wiley into the big leagues”. Dazed and Confused

The Morning Orchestra

www.myspace.com/themorningorchestra

The Morning Orchestra are one of Brighton’s finest young acts, playing their own infectious brand of “Sunshine Pop”. The groups 50′s and 60′s influenced sound is “retro yet refreshing” with the soulful voice of singer David Yeoman putting melody at the forefront of their music. With harmonies galore, shaking rhythms and down-right dirty guitars, The Morning Orchestra present an eclectic mix not to be missed.

The Secret Cinema Band

www.myspace.com/secretcinemaband

Centred around the soulful croon of Laurent Francis John, The Secret Cinema Band have the key to melancholy and moody yearning. Using a selection of odd sounds – bass violin, electronic toys – to add flavour to their emotional tunes, they produce epic moments with undeniable hooks.

Tiger Shadow qthemusic@tigershadow.com

There’s a trip hop groove holding this Leeds trio together with some witty conversational raps laid over evocative guitar and insistent rhythms. Their songs sound amazingly familiar and the mid-paced shuffle and warm vocal make Tiger Shadow feel like an old friend it’s good to hear again.

Tom Williams And The Boat

www.myspace.com/williamstommusic

Feted by the likes of Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens in 2009 and buoyed by festival appearances throughout the summer, Tom Williams And The Boat release a new single, ‘Concentrate’ on 8 March. Tom is appearing as special guest on the Chris TT and Stornoway upcoming tours. “Tom’s taken a giant step forward” – Spinner
