OZZY OSBOURNE’S

I AM OZZY

#2 ON NEW YORK TIMES AND

#3 ON WALL STREET JOURNAL’S

For the first time in his 40-plus year career, rock legend OZZY OSBOURNE has stormed onto on a non-music chart with his I AM OZZY (Grand Central Publishing) autobiography which has landed at #2 and #3 on the New York Times and Wall Street Journal’s non-fiction charts, respectively.  Last week, OZZY wrapped the first run of his promotional tour with appearances on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and book signings in Los Angeles–including the largest crowd on this tour and a record number for the store when 3,500 fans came out in Huntington Beach, CA.  I AM OZZY is the rock icon’s unbelievable story told, for the first time, in Ozzy’s hilarious, witty, and inimitable voice.  Additional book signings are set in the following cities:

Here’s what some critics had to say about I AM OZZY:

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (1/25/10):  “As we glean from I Am Ozzy, things tend to happen to him beyond his control–not that control is in any way part of his nomenclature.  It makes the Prince of Darkness’ autobiography funny, frustrating, fascinating and impossible to put down.”

Philadelphia Weekly (1/27/10):  “I Am Ozzy–which is one of the best memoirs this memoir junkie has ever read, no joke.  Thick as a bible, I Am Ozzy is a lightning-read account of one man’s journey into and out of the sludgy bowels of the rock and roll beast…But, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, like Tom Robbins books, the joy here, even for Sabbath fans, is less about the plot and all about the delivery. What I mean is, the book is hilarious.”

Boston Phoenix (1/27/10):  “His bleak, Dickensian early years were marked by soul-crushingly depressing jobs, trouble in school, time in prison, and near-abject poverty…It’s all chronicled in I Am Ozzy, his new, startlingly absorbing (and hilarious) memoir.”

Associated Press (1/29/10):  “I Am Ozzy is a ‘true Hollywood story’ in book format–a ride through rock ‘n’ roll history with a driver saturated in controlled substances.  It’s Ozzy Osborne’s stumbling, rambling, decadent-beyond-recognition memoir, as over-the-top as the author himself. The book would be heartbreaking if it weren’t so hilarious…This book is gritty and raunchy. But while Osbourne’s memoir is sometimes painful to read, it’s also sidesplittingly funny.”

AT THE ROXY THEATREON THE SUNSET STRIP
IN WEST HOLLYWOOD

PERFORMANCES BY PERRY FARRELL
AND LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE

WITH SPECIAL DJ SETS FROM
SCOTT KIRKLAND OF THE CRYSTAL METHOD AND STEVE JONES
PLUS DJ CASPER

Publicity firm MSO (Mitch Schneider Organization) celebrated “15 Years of Hits, Havoc & History” with a packed anniversary bash at the Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood.

The evening began with special DJ sets from STEVE JONES (the Sex Pistols guitarist whose beloved “Jonesy’s Jukebox” radio show has returned online with Steve’s playlist streaming 24 hours a day at http://iamrogue.com/jonesysjukebox/index.html and his video interviews at http://iamrogue.com/live) and SCOTT KIRKLAND of the recently Grammy-nominated electronic music iconic duo THE CRYSTAL METHOD, as well as DJmso_15thanniversaryinvite CASPER (The Roxy, Les Deux).

The festivities took a turn for the surreal when LUCENT DOSSIER EXPERIENCE—the critically acclaimed Los Angeles-based troupe of visually unique performance artists—delivered an eye-popping dance performance, followed by a supersonic electronic hybrid set from alternative music icon PERRY FARRELL with singer-dancer ETTY FARRELL and guitarist NICK MAYBURY (with Lucent Dossier joining in).

Over 500 guests turned out to celebrate MSO’s 15 years in the crazy music biz including Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, Devo’s Gerald Casale, Blondie’s Clem Burke, Stray Cat Slim Jim Phantom, Joe Sib (the Wax frontman currently hot with his one-man “broken word” show  “California Calling: A Story Of Growing Up Punk Rock”), Miranda Lee Richards, Lili Haydn, Tracii Guns, James Intveld, Malea McGuinness, Carina Round, Carla Olson, The Veronicas (Jessica & Lisa Origliasso), Samantha Maloney (Chelsea Girls, Hole), Eddie Wakes, Carl Rotivo, DJ Rap, French (Automatic Annie, Palmerston) and new bands After Midnight Project, Rival Sons, the Strange Familiar and Y Luv.  Other guests included film director Peter Joseph (Zeitgeist), actor Greg Evigan, fashion designers Henry Duarte, Karen Dusenberry and Santino Rice (“Project Runway”).

North Mississippi Allstars

Concert Review | Cubby Bear, Chicago, IL | Saturday, February 06, 2010

Contributing Photographer/Writer : Tom Fennell

Just minutes before the doors opened, the Cubby Bear–located just steps from Chicago’s Wrigley Field–was just another North Side sports bar; countless flat-screen TVs blaring the night’s scores and some Top 40 hits on the jukebox.  By the time the doors open, the line of fans waiting outside to escape the cold had grown to hundreds of feet long.  A tightly-packed column of fans wrapping around the corner with one thing in mind: the rockin’ energy of the North Mississippi Allstars.

The last few tickets available at the door quickly got scooped up by hopeful attendees and the place got full fast.  Equal numbers hustled toward those coveted spots within an arm’s reach of the stage, while others sought some…liquid refreshment.  Their choice was made carefully, because by the time opening act The City Champs took the stage to warm up the crowd, simply moving around the room became tedious; however, the crowd was in good spirits, and the close quarters fostered friendly conversation, nods and dancing as the Champs brought their signature style of three-part instrumental jazz laced with heavy doses of funk and roots rock.

Primed and anticipating a great night, it wasn’t long before the crowd welcomed The North Mississippi Allstars with all the cheers and excitement of true fans in the presence of one of their favorites.  The set kicked off fast and lasted several hours – a mix of the Allstars’ hits from throughout their long career topped with a full battery of guitar power in the capable hands of Luther Dickinson who gave playful looks to the little dances from bassist Chris “Chewie” Chew.

Further into the set, brother and drummer Cody Dickinson was replaced by City Champs’ drummer George Sluppick so that Cody could don that wild, electrified washboard he rocks so often.  With a mix of frantic rhythm and tonal distortion, Cody’s riffs are unlike any percussion or guitar solo out there, bringing a groove all his own to the group’s distinctive sound. They bring the crowd’s excitement level higher, and after an instrumental break, the band graciously doubles down and races back into their set, joined by the remainder of the City Champs, guitarist Joe Restivo and organist Al Gamble. Both trios meld perfectly as they improvise over Allstars standards. The Champs eventually head backstage, and Luther, Cody and Chewie send us home with a few crowd-requested favorites.

Yeah – it was a solid show by some legendary young pros.

About ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL:

Tapped “Best Overall Event” by URB.COM and heralded by the Los Angeles Times as bringing “out raucous revelers as well as electronica’s elite,” UMF has also won “Best Music Event” by the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) in 2009, 2008, 2007 & 2005, “Best International Dance Music Festival” by the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2008 and “Best Festival” by the Village Voice Media New Times consecutively five years running from 2005 through 2009.

UMF was originally created as a pure EDM (electronic dance music) festival in 1999 by founders Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes. Together with the addition of Adam Russakoff five years ago, Ultra has grown to present not only the genre’s hottest, biggest and best headline artists (The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Tiesto, Underworld, MOBY, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk, David Guetta, Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo, Deadmau5 and Paul Oakenfold), but also crossover headline bands that incorporate EDM elements in their music and have a history, or new beginning in the EDM community (The Cure, The Killers, The Black Eyed Peas, Santogold, The Ting Tings, The Bravery).

In addition to the annual Miami festival, UMF is continuing to expand internationally. Look for more upcoming UMF events in Brazil, Ibiza and other locations around the world.
