Third Man Records Release New Singles
Third Man Records is starting the New Year with the release of two new singles, as well as the announcement of the latest Platinum Package for members of their subscription service, The Vault. This newest singles installment will include tracks from ‘Queen of Rockabilly’ Wanda Jackson and new all-female rock and roll outfit The Black Belles, and will be available on vinyl and iTunes on January 26th.
First up is the highly anticipated Jack White-produced single by rock and roll and country singing legend, Wanda Jackson. In an era when rock and roll and rockabilly was dominated by men, Jackson was a groundbreaker who more than held her own with a ripping voice like no other and hard-headed songs about no-nonsense female protagonists. Her career has spanned rockabilly, rock and roll, country and gospel and she’s shared stages with all the greats from Elvis Presley to Jerry Lee Lewis. Jackson’s first release with Third Man Records has her putting her own distinctive spin on two cover songs, Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates classic rocker “Shakin’ All Over.”
The second single is from a new band called The Black Belles. The release captures a modern twist to a sound heavily rooted in the soul and garage rock of the 60’s. Discovered by Jack White and brought to Third Man Studios for their first recordings, “What Can I Do” and “Lies” are the band’s inaugural release and showcase their unique ability to pay homage to their roots while also pushing their music into new territories.
Lastly, Third Man Records is pleased to announce the next package for their subscription service The Vault. In addition to pre-sale tickets, video exclusives, forums, contests, concert footage, direct contact with Third Man bands and more, every three months members receive a physical package from Third Man containing records, releases and novelties that are exclusive and available only to the members of The Vault. This quarter’s package will include:
- Third Man Records “Singles Collection 2009”
A double LP on 180 gram colored vinyl in a gatefold sleeve compiling every Third Man single recorded in 2009, as well as the two latest releases by Wanda Jackson and The Black Belles. The LP also comes with a fold out poster displaying the singles’ covers. Record One will be yellow vinyl and Record Two will be white. The Singles Collection albums will be the only colored LPs to be distributed through The Vault.
- The Dead Weather “No Horse (Take One)” and “Jawbreaker (Take One)”
Recorded in December of 2009, this 7” features two recordings that are an exclusive first listen for Vault members into the sessions for the new Dead Weather album. These two takes will not be released anywhere else, and provides a rare opportunity for fans to be the first to hear how the new album is progressing.
- Third Man Records Set of 3 Postcards
Three old fashioned linen-style postcards showcasing the three components of The Third Man Process: Third Man Studio, Third Man Records, and United Record Pressing. These will be valuable collector’s items for any fan.
